THE CATTLE were back at this year's Halifax Agricultural Show.
Jerseys, Dexters, Holstein Friesians and Highlands were some of the breeds being shown at this year's 62nd annual show.
Last year, an outbreak of foot and mouth meant there was no livestock in the event. It also caused a drop in the number of entries in the horses section.
Organisers of the livestock sections said that they were very happy to be back.
David Hamer, joint cattle secretary, said: "It is excellent to be back. This year's turnout has been exceptionally good.
"And the fact the boundary restrictions for livestock have been removed means we have been got entries from Lancashire as well."
A record entry of 106 cows included more Dexters and Holstein Friesians than at the annual Royal Show, at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.
Mr Hamer said: "Stoneleigh is the pinnacle for livestock and the fact that numbers were down because of the blue tongue has boosted entries for this show.
"Year on year, our cattle numbers increase, which is a great reflection on us. This year the area was extended for even more entries.
"The fact we are still so popular shows us that farming still matters. This is our way of bringing a bit of the farm to the public."
Donna Elm, 23 from Savile Park, Halifax, said: "I was at last year's and even though it was great, you did see the difference without the livestock. The animals are what most people come for, so it was great to see them back."
