THIS lively, colourful musical brings the best out of the 11 to 17-year-olds.
It doesn't contain hit after hit, as you might expect from a Barry Manilow musical but it does make a welcome change to hear some different songs put across with such enthusiasm by a young cast.
Splendid costumes and slick movement from so many people in a tight space make it an eye-catching affair.
Director Andrew Whitworth, musical director Rachel Haley and choreographer Andy Milthorpe have done an excellent job.
The story is based around a young, aspiring songwriter who dreams of writing a hit stage musical. His imagination takes him back to 1947 to showgirls and gangsters with some dramatic moments.
Sixteen-year-olds Tom Milner and Ashleigh Stephenson are up to the demanding roles of Tony and Lola.
Becky Heneghan is a convincing Conchita, Daniel Bottomley impresses as gangster Rico, Matt Walsh comes across clearly as entrepreneur Sam and Rochelle Newson looks good as Gladys.
The show is on until Saturday when there is also a matinee.
