Festival of Dance XII
Whiteley's Academy of Performing Arts
Victoria Theatre Halifax

Whiteley's Academy of Performing Arts' students have surpassed themselves once again.

Their winning combination? High production values, a classy, versatile backdrop, wonderful co
stumes, motivating teachers who instill a professional attitude and disciplined technique, choose great music to interpret, and create inspiring and entertaining choreography that brings out the joy in dancing in every one of their pupils.

There was so much variety. There was classical ballet – from the basic moves of tiniest tots to the advanced students. Golden Brown was an original display of classical lyricism to the Stranglers' track. My Turn and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini were choreographically demanding and danced with musicality. The spirited Tarantella was danced with real flair.

Contemporary styles were confidently displayed in Fugi-tives and Candyman showcased excellent tap dancing. Amy Straw captured the Cabaret idiom in Jazz Jungle, while the advanced musical theatre group impressed in the jazzy Sing Sing Sing.

Zak Jennings, surely a future star, was outstanding and must inspire the very promising Work It Out boys coming up through the academy.

A terrific show.
