The wonderful illustrations in the Angelina Ballerina stories come to life when the endearing dancing mouse gets her chance to organise a royal performance of The Sleeping Beauty and dance Aurora for the Queen.

Choreographer Antony Dowson and his two designers collaborated closely with author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig to match Angelina's idyllic world in all its refinement, detail and humour, to Tchaikovsky's beautiful music.

The mouse masks, costumes and scenery were perfect. The children enthusiastically greeted the familiar characters as they appeared, reserving their loudest cheers for Angelina (Yuki Watanabe) and their loudest hisses for wicked fairy Carabosse (Anna Forbes).

It was a delectable show with Ethan Brookes a clumsily ardent prince, Tomomi Tamagawa a sweetly benevolent Lilac Fairy, and Tracy Shuk-Kan-Au bringing comic touches to both Valentine and the Carnation Fairy.

Truly a triumph for Angelina and ballet mistress Miss Lilley (Laura Hussey).
