Smiling Steph's the Halifax Gala queen
Steph Smith, from Denholme, attended interviews held at Holdsworth House Hotel, Holmfield, in January before a panel of Halifax Calder Rotary Club members.
“My sister mentioned that she’d seen The Gala was looking for a Queen for this year’s event and suggested that I should apply,” said the 17-year-old student.

Steph has attended Halifax Charity Gala almost every year.
The entertainment in previous years has inspired her Animal Care studies at Calderdale College.
She added: “I loved The Gala, especially the displays at Manor Heath. The falconry was the best part for me.”
Steph is interested in charity work and hopes to go to Africa to work with endangered safari animals.
