Fly-infested butcher's store is shut

A WHOLESALE butcher's infested with flies has been closed down by health officials.
Inspectors said A S Poultry, based at Unit 25, Calder Workshops, off Gibbet Street, Halifax, posed a health risk.
The unit was being used to cut up meat, which it did not have formal approval for.
The meat was then being sold wholesale.
Officers issued an emergency hygiene prohibition order after they found unfit food and the extensive infestation of flies.
A spokesman for Calderdale Council said: "Officials were granted an emergency hygiene prohibition order to close unapproved cutting premises off Gibbet Street in Halifax.
"The business at Unit 25, Calder Workshops, trading as A S Poultry, was inspected last Thursday and found to be in an insanitary state."
Officers decided the site posed a health risk and issued the order. It was then confirmed by Calderdale magistrates this week. Environmental health acted after a complaint was made to them about the premises.
The owners, Rashid and Ansar Mahmood, were unavailable for comment.
