REGARDING the Government's idea that schoolchildren should salute the flag and swear allegiance to Queen and country, I agree entirely.
I remember attending school on Armistice Day and Empire Day when we marched around the school, turned our eyes left and saluted our wonderful flag.

How proud we were and woe betide anyone laughing or acting in a foolish manner. No sports lessons for two or three weeks; no playtime for the same period; stay in after school for a week.

It made many of us potential sergeant majors, and we were all taught all verses of God Save the Queen, I Vow to Thee My Country and the old favourite, Rule Britannia.

Not much of this type of attitude left today. Why?

Ron Thrower

Because, Ron, it might offend the incomers. A pathetic attitude, I know, but that's how it is.

Not only at schools should the flag fly,but from as many public buildings/Homes as possible, let us all be as proud of Great Britain, as the American people are of their National flag.
Bring it on A.S.A.P.

Proud? Of Britain? When Labour are wrecking everything to be proud about? NEVER.

To me it seems like Mr Thrower and the USA live in a world of Western colonialism. The rest of you are just self deluded.

Neither I nor my child will salute the flag and swear allegiance to Queen and country. Both are just an attempt to enforce submission by an incompetent and corrupt Government.

No R.R.but you will take all the freebies going, that this caring Labour Government have bestowed on us,unlike the selfish/devious Tories, who hope one day to govern us, and do a Thatcher, and rob us all.
10 more years Gordon !!!!!

Governments come and go. England/the UK is the ground you stand on and the generations of citizens who have built and shaped the country.

I salute the flags of these islands.

Could not put it any better Titus Groan,in such a short letter you have said it all.

Pity the rest of those traitors to our flag, will not pack their bags and leave this Green and Pleasant Land of ours.

Caring? The invasion of Iraq and lying, yes, LYING to the public, was caring? The murder of over 300,000 civilians in Iraq, caring? The failure of Blair to say sorry, caring? The worst national debt since Churchill took on the nazis, caring?

Caring, no. Incompetent and corrupt, yes.
