Bank holiday, 8.10am – and I get a parking ticket outside my home

Wakefield Road,
Halifax
It is now 11am on Bank Holiday Monday, the roast is in the oven for a family get-together and I have spent the last hour trying to appeal a penalty charge notice that we received this morning!

Having lived at our current address on Wakefield Road
for just over a year I almost expected this but feel the need to comment on the ridiculous behaviour of our council.

We have a parking permit due to previous problems with people from the Copley data centre using our parking spaces while they are in work. Permits are needed to park between 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Almost every bank holiday the wardens can be seen checking for permits and, unfortunately, ours had slipped down and could not fully be seen.

So at 8.12am – while we were having a much-deserved lie-in – the penalty was issued.

Having tried to appeal online unsuccesfully (obviously, they are on holiday!) I have had to spend time writing a letter so as not to pay to park outside my own house.

We can only have one visitor so we'll have to watch out all day if anyone else wants to visit or else there will be further fines! What a waste of time and energy this council causes us.

Happy Holidays!

GR Taylor

Just because we own land outside your house doesnt give you the right to park on it,

The council wardens hunt the areas most likely to raise revenue, Remember Remermerance Sunday.

You don't own the land outside the boundary of your land, nor do you have any divine right to park there. The fact that your permit fell down is unfortunate but, I'm afraid, it is not the fault of the parking warden who has quite rightly issued a ticket.

I do hope that your appeal is successful though as I believe that the parking nazis are now more concerned about making money rather than enforcment.

Shame the wardens can't get the police cars that park in a dangerous place on double yellows at the bottom of club lane outside the Punjab takeaway. Or the domino pizza delivery cars that park on zebra crossings.

At least you have a place to park. Take a ride on Akeds road sometime, and try to imagine being disabled.

Seems to be saying it was so unfair because the ticket was issued at 8:12am. Does Mr Taylor think there is a time limit on illegal parking (as it appeared to be to the traffic warden), would he have accepted it if it was issued at, say, 12:00? Also, the penalty is always for failure to DISPLAY. If it fell out of view, he should just take that little extra care to make sure it's visible when he leaves the car, surely that's just common sense!

Isn't it funny how the permits always seem to have 'unfortunately slipped down and could not fully be seen'?
