THE music that made Halifax a swinging town in the 50s and 60s rocked Harveys department store as a history of the era was published.
Local author Trevor Simpson's second collection of reminiscences of pop music in Halifax, Small Town Saturday Night Volume II was unveiled during the evening – and fans queued up for signed copies.
The spirit of the 50s was evoked by Philip Mindenhall, the son of dance band leader Norman, and keyboard player Martin Hewitt.
And the music of the 60s was played by local guitarist Tony Pye and ex-Shadows guitarist Brian Licorice Locking.
Jennifer Peel, of Fred Wade's book shop, said: "It was absolutely fantastic. People were buying multiple copies and we have had people phoning up with a long list of names to send out to all over the place. Trevor is so enthusiastic and I am pleased for him because we do believe in supporting local authors."
Trevor said: "It was absolutely wonderful. We had 100 guests and Harveys was wonderful in allowing us to hold the event there."
