Siddal A 28 v Keighley Albion 23
(Premier Division)

SIDDAL hit back strongly from 13-6 down to maintain their great form and climb to third in the table.
Two tries from man of the match Alan Ormonroyd helped them inflict only a second league defeat of the campaign on the visitors.

Defences were well up to the task in the early stages of a hard fought contest played in tricky conditions.

Home pro
ps Martin Clegg and Danny Whiteley ran strongly while back rowers Paul Long, Ian Crawshaw and Sam Garnett plus hooker Sean McCormack led the tackling effort.

Home scrum half Danny Marshall ambushed winger Simon Marsden behind his own line and the home men got another set of six tackles when a Darren Phillips 'bomb' was fumbled by winger Simon Marsden.

The pressure eventually told when Mick Shaw sent loose forward Long in to open the scoring and Shaun Blackburn converted.

Albion were soon on terms, fullback Terence Trotter making 20 yards from a tap penalty and second rower Pete Emmott barging over from the next play the ball.

Leon Spratt levelled the scores with the kick and then kicked a penalty for offside to make it 6-8 after half an hour.

Marsden spilled the ball with the try line open but stand off Paul Stores stretched the visitors' lead to three points at the interval with a drop goal.

Connor Armstrong added to Siddal's problems when he darted over from acting half back three minutes after the break but winger Ormonroyd dived on the ball from Garnett's kick through on the last tackle two minutes later.

The home side swept in front from the retsart when Eddie Shaw, Johnny Lawless and Shaw paved the way for Garnett to score with a blockbusting run, Blackburn's kick making it 16-13.

Phillips had a drop goal ruled out when the referee decided the ball hadn't hit the floor, but Shaw's excellent 50 yard weaving run set up Ormonroyd to crash over for a converted try which stretched the lead to nine points.

Albion centre Dale Winton replied with a peach of a try which he converted himself but Shaw raced from acting half back to seal victory with five minutes left, Blackburn's kick making it 28-19.

The visitors had the last word with a try from winger Dave Tallis in the corner.

Hipperholme Warriors 18 v Morley Borough 34
(Division Three)

HIPPERHOLME only just scraped a side together to face second in the league Borough and that cost them as they tired after leading 18-12 in the second half.

Led magnificently by captain Alex Scargill, his right hand man Pete Williams and the tireless James Spivey, Warriors produced some crunching tackling against very big and robust opposition. Fullback Andrew Green found his old form and also proved a handful.

Three Ollie Dugdale penalties gave the home side a 6-0 lead but a frustrated Morley at last broke the stubborn Hipperholme defence and got over for a converted try to level the scores.
