York III 5 v Halifax 1
(Yorkshire Premier Division)
Halifax suffered their second heavy defeat in succession despite dominating the opening half.
Matthew Pinder's men welcomed back key-players Martyn Boyle and Richard Nutting, allowing them to field their strongest side, as they looked to avenge a 3-1 home defeat on the opening day of the season.
Pinder's side started strongly and Martin Jackson's shot rebounded off a post.
The visitors were hampered by an under-par performance from Damien Reynolds, whose attacking play in recent weeks had made all the difference to his side.
A Pinder strike hit the keeper's chest when a goal looked certain and York scored from their first attack, the winger having time and space to beat Matthew Metcalfe with a crisp strike.
Matthew Graham produced a brilliant piece of skill following a fine pass from Luke Greenwood, only to see another shot cannon back off the post. Greenwood, who produced his best game of the season, was at the heart of Halifax's attacking play.
Metcalfe deflected a close range strike over the bar with his knee but was unable to stop York scoring on their next attack. He saved but the ball fell to an onrushing player, who scored easily.
Almost unbelievably Graham, again hit the post on his next attack, leaving the visitors holding their heads in disbelief.
York then made it 3-0 as Paul Graham lost his man, who coolly drove past Metcalfe as the half drew to a close.
York grabbed a further two goals in quick succession after half time, with Paul Graham grabbing a consolation in the dying minutes.
Driffield 4 v Halifax III 1
(Yorkshire Eight)
Halifax lost the plot in what, as expected, turned out to be one of the toughest games of the season.
The match got a late go-ahead and Halifax went onto the offensive but pushed too many men forward and Driffield scored with a quick counter attack.
Halifax failed to learn from their mistake and conceded two more goals to lightning breaks in the first half, Steve Sparks making two magnificent saves to restrict the damage.
After some harsh words at the interval Halifax's defence tightened and the midfield created opportunities for the front men to push forward and win a short corner, which Phillip Green dispatched with a thunderous shot.
Dave Wheatley pushed forward from midfield onto the wing and immediately found an opportunity, but the keeper snapped his feet shut to deny him a goal.
On 50 minutes Driffield scored again after intercepting a poor pass.
With five minutes to go Halifax's man of the match John Barnfather launched himself on a solo run and beat four Driffield players but his instinctive shot was saved.
Scarborough 6 v King Cross 5
(Yorkshire Four)
Despite staying over the previous night and having to play a man short due to Jason Smith's mysterious injury, Cross started brightly but fell behind as Boro snatched a goal on the break.
