The Echo Cup match between Martins Nest and Sun Inn was the only game to survive the weather, but it provided excellent entertainment.
And Sun needed extra time to finally kill off the hopes of their rivals.
Nest looked heavy underdogs against the free scoring league leaders - worsened by a shortage of defensive cover that forced Paul Meredith and Dan Reddy to forge an unlikely centre half duo.
However, they took the lead through Chris Payneonly for Ryan Collins to equalise with a nonchalant lob from 30 yards.
The second half bore a familiar pattern as Payne once more gave Nest the lead from close range.
Meredith and Reddy were excelling themselves in their unfamiliar defensive roles, but winger Ryan Barkham struck to force extra time.
Nest's young midfielder Jacob Driver once more gave Nest the lead but again Sun found a way back into the match, Wayne Collins seeing a shot creep under Nest keeper Anthony Barrett.
Wayne Bradbury provided the inspiration that saw Sun take the lead for the first time - and ultimately progress to the quarter finals.
The jet heeled wide man burst into the box and was felled by Andrew Lumb. Wayne Collins calmly netted from the spot to see his side through.
