THE big three in the Calderdale League Division One stepped up a gear this week to chalk up comprehensive victories.
Huddersfield A entertained Arden A and despite having their top two players missing, proved far too strong and ran out 5-0 winners.

Courier B also produced a comfortable win over Huddersfield B, while a good win from Ray Cully could not save Halif
ax A from defeat by Hebden Bridge A, who avoided a potential banana skin with aplomb and in the process set themselves up for their next game, the big showdown against Courier B.

The final match saw Brighouse produce a surprise win over Courier A to register their first points of the season.

In Division Two, Courier C dropped a surprise point at home to Hebden Bridge in a match reduced to three boards, with Torvoy Joemagis's win cancelled out by Steve Priest's success for the visitors.

Hebden Bridge B took full advantage, beating their juniors by a maximum score, with Halifax B winning narrowly against Wheatley.

All the first round games in the Calderdale Championships went to seed bar one, namely Mike Barnett's draw against the highly rated Robert Clegg.

The most interesting clash was the father and son confrontation between Dave and Matthew Wedge, with Dave's experience in playing time trouble saving him from possible defeat against his talented son.
