THERE were three one-sided Collinson Cup finals at Illingworth on Monday with wins for Northowram HT under 13s, Lightcliffe under 15s and Illingworth under 17s.
SBCI under 15s met Lightcliffe who chose to bat first in the first of the matches .
Things were looking good for SBCI, tight bowling from Matthew Scholefield (two for 15) and Gareth Hayes (one for 10) keeping Lightcliffe in check.
Joe Duffy then stepped up and smashed his way to 30 retired with one ball to go.
SBCI got off to a disastrous start, losing Lewis Firth third ball to off-spinner Ben Grech and skipper Hugh Gunningham in the second over.
All the Lightcliffe bowlers maintained their discipline and strangled the life out of the SBCI innings which closed on 56 for eight.
The highlight was a fantastic piece of sportsmanship from Lightcliffe captain Sam Kalanovic. Off the last ball of the game SBCI's under 11 Tavereners captain George Hampshire turned for an impossible third run and with the ball in keeper Kalanovic's gloves he would have been run out by 12 yards.
The Lightcliffe skipper put the ball in his pocket and let Hampshire make his ground drawing spontaneous applause from the crowd.
The under 13 final saw unbeaten league winners Northowram take on Augustinians, who had won the Huddersfield under 13s league and were playing in the competition by invitation.
Augustinians never got going with all the Northowram bowlers on top of their game, Calum Lewis (three for three), Sam Talbot (three for seven) and Sam Gott (two for six) being the pick.
A total of 52 was never going to be enough and despite losing man of the match Sam Gott for 16 and Yorkshire under 13 player Alex Mellor for six, both off the bowling of 11-year-old James Pettinger, skipper Taylor Swaine saw Hedge Top home to an eight wicket victory with eight overs to spare.
Host club Illingworth and Thornton contested the under 17s final. Choosing to bat first, Thornton posted a useful 106 for five with Ross Parr (46) and Michael Smith (31) scoring the majority of the runs.
Illingworth's Niall Lockley bowled his five overs for 12. In fading light and the threat of rain the Illingworth openers Steven Cook and Lockley decided to put the foot down.
Man of the match Lockley smashed 50, which included two consecutive straight sixes, and 15-year-old Cook finished the game with a six out of the ground with nine overs to spare.
Raffles during the day raised close to £200 for the Collinson Memorial Fund and will help give two cricketing stalwarts a holiday in Scarborough in 2009.
