Whitworth remains a threat

A HOST of familiar names are closing in on the Halifax/Huddersfield and District Union Matchplay title following the first two rounds of action at Ogden.
Ominously, 10-time winner Andy Whitworth of Bradley Hall is among those who will contest the third round at Halifax on Saturday.
He proved he has lost none of his hunger for the competition after seeing off West End's Steve Martin in the second round last weekend and now faces a meeting with Clive Crawshaw, who will be hoping local knowledge of the Ogden course counts in his favour.
Holder Richard Broadley of Huddersfield is also still in contention and he will need to see off the considerable experience of West End's Chris Ingham if he is to make the semi-finals.
The other third round matches sees the Union's junior team manager Frank Greaves take on one of his charges in West End's Sam Bridges while Ryburn's Chris Rudd faces Meltham's union team regular Graham McLean.
