ADAM Cryer of Hebden Bridge Golf Club has qualified for the grand finals in the under 16 years of age group category in the prestigious Nick Faldo Series.
Having successfully negotiated the regional qualifying competitions at Ganton and Moortown earlier in the year, Cryer, who plays off a handicap of four, won a tense sudden death play off in the regional finals at The Roxburghe Golf Club near Kelso. He had a birdie on the par four third hole against James Morrison of the George Washington Golf Club.
The talented youngster, who has also represented the Halifax and Huddersfield Union team at under 18s level for the past two years, is to play the final at the Costa do Sauipe Golf Resort between October 25-31 where he will be competing against players from 15 other countries.
"This is a tremendous achievement for such a small club," said Geoff Holmes, Hebden Bridge's club captain and junior organiser.
"Quite rightly, everybody at Hebden Bridge Golf Club is absolutely thrilled for Adam for what can only be described as a trip of a lifetime to play in this all expenses paid golf tournament.
"The club is sure to mark this fine achievement to Adam and that his success will hopefully act as an inspiration to other talented youngsters."
Cryer will be hoping to add to his recent successes in the Hebden Bridge Junior Open on Sunday September 7.
Anybody wishing to enter should send an e-mail to geoff.holmes1@talktalk.net or alternatively turn up on the day at 9am.
This competition has again been sponsored by First Bus who provide a prize table second to none and is open to all youngsters in the Calderdale/Kirklees Area with a handicap of 28 or less.
The entry fee of £7 includes a hot meal and a cold drink.
