AS a consumerist nation we are forever looking for the latest must-have item.
And this is more often than not in the form of designer clothes or accessories.
If we see our favourite celebrity wearing the latest designer look, we women often aspire to look the same. And who can blame us?
However with the credit crunch biting at our heels, some of us might have to cut back on our designer clothes spending. But as luck would have it, we can still keep our favourite designers close to our hearts – by having their name or logo enblazened across our nails.
Designer nails are the latest trend to hit our shores from where else but the United States. You can have 24ct gold or silver plated names or logos from the world's most prestigious designers like Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton, D&G or YSL, inlaid into sculptured acrylic nails.
The new look has been introduced to Calderdale by nail therapist Claire Duffield of Todmorden whose company is called Nail Envy. The 37-year-old was looking for something new to offer her clients for the festive season and spotted them on the internet.
They have been a huge success, with the Chanel logo by far the most popular, followed by Gucci and D&G. "If you think they sound chavy think again. They are not in your face. The nail art is very discreet and can go on the nail tip or down the side of your nails," says Claire who has been a nail therapist for two years and works at Hair and Beauty World, Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd.
She has had various names and logos on her nails and says the reaction from other women has been amazing. "Everyone has a favourite designer and most women think it is wonderful you can now have designer nails. It's the latest trend and popular with both celebrities and the public," says Claire.
She has done more than a dozen sets of nails so far and says she has now mastered the technique and can do a full set in around one hour. "They are very hard wearing and last for months. You just need infills every four to five weeks.
Some fans are also having the new nail art on their toes."
Claire charges £50 for the new designer nails. She can be contacted on 07890946340.
